Integration of Quran Memorization and Islamic Character Education for Children in the Digital Era: A Case Study of the Al-Hidayah Memorization House in Palembang

Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology in the digital era has generated serious implications for the character formation of children aged 5–17 years, particularly in terms of moral conduct, manners, and self-control. This condition highlights the strategic role of non-formal Islamic educational institutions, such as Rumah Tahfidz, in fostering Islamic character in an adaptive manner. This study aims to analyze the role of Rumah Tahfidz Qur'an Al-Hidayah Palembang in shaping the Islamic character of children in the digital era, examine the character-building methods implemented, and identify the challenges encountered along with the efforts undertaken to address them. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects included administrators, teachers (ustadz and ustadzah), students aged 5–17 years, and parents. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, with data validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that Islamic character formation is achieved through the integration of Qur'anic memorization with moral education, educators' role modeling, habituation of religious practices, and educational supervision of digital media use. This study offers a conceptual novelty by demonstrating that Rumah Tahfidz functions not only as a center for Qur'anic memorization but also as an adaptive moral ecosystem capable of responding to the challenges of the digital era.
